From Armada Forums: Polgara's Guide to Guys (According to the signs)

Disclaimer: While most of the traits listed under each sign may be shown by all MEN in general, I chose those traits that are dominent for each sign. These are based on my previous readings, experiences, and people that i met and interacted with so far. While my writings may have been influenced by the late great astrologer, Linda Goodman, most ideas and examples cited are mine.

Aries Guy (March 20 - April 18) Lieutenant Brat

He will always be at the front of a group. You can’t miss him coz he’s always the one to start parlor games, pranks and discussions. There’s usually a T sign between his eyes, formed by thick brows that remind you to not mess with him because when he wants to, he can lead an all-out war against you, with his own personal army. This guy is a leader, he cannot be comfortable as a mere follower. When he can’t be the one who leads, he will usually veer out alone to organize his own group. Any institution led by the Aries guy will succeed just because leading is what he does best. These guys of the fire sign can tolerate fevers high enough to kill other people.

In Love: In love, he will want you to make him the center of your life, and he will do the same to you. Everything must be about him. Any diversion on your part will make him lose interest fast. Just like a baby, he will want your full attention when he needs it. Like a kid proudly saying “Look what I did, mom!”, you are compelled to watch as he demonstrates his skills, otherwise he will hate you. Never dictate how he should spend his money. He is the captain of his destiny, as well as his finances. In his mind, you are a princess and he is your prince, so don't do anything un-princess-like or he's gone.

Polgara’s Quick Tip: Always sing him praises when he does something he considers important. Kung madalas syang mag-daldal, wag mo syang babarahin in the middle of his discussion (which will require your patience kasi matagaaaal bago sya matapos). If you interrupt him and change the subject, he will let you talk for a while, but will return back to the original topic coz he wasn’t through with it. Siya ang bangka ng usapan, sakyan mo na lang.

Taurus Guy (April 21 - May 21) The Sensual Homeboy

This guy loves to eat, drink and be happy. He is a man’s man, and in a group or party, men want to be in his company just because he’s an epitome of how guys should act and look. Like the female counterpart, he gets mooney over babies and families who go out together in the park or in church. He wants his parties at home where he’s comfortable and with an approved guest list of his favorite people. This guy will love you if you cook well, and he usually will not eat much if the food is less than par. He’s also attracted to texture and will choose comfort over fashion in clothing. There may be times when he seems out of sorts and cranky. This usually arises from lack of sleep, lousy food and uncomfortable resting conditions.

In Love: He’s usually chauvinistic and won’t tolerate un-womanly behavior in a girl. In his mind, guys have certain things that they can do, and girls have certain limitations to what they can do and say around other people. Any improper behavior or comment will warrant a verbal beating when you’re alone together.

Polgara’s Quick Tip: When he’s in one of his moods, try to coax him out of it by bringing him his favorite merienda, and a soft pillow or stuffed toy. When he doesn’t want to sleep, you can pat the bed and make “oooh”-ing or yawning sounds as you hug the pillows. When you describe something to him over the phone or over the net, use adjectives like “ay ang lambot ng higaan ko ngayon”, or “hmm ambango ng binili kong perfume, amoy candy”, he will get a very graphic image of your description, as if he were actually the one touching, tasting or smelling it.

Gemini Guy (May 22 - June 21) The Multi-tasking Underdog

This guy can multi-task more efficiently than any other sign. He can be talking to you over YM, brushing his teeth, doing paper work and watching something in youtube… all at the same time. He always has a target person that he will want to be, or a target position of power that he will aim for, dream about and ceaselessly talk about. However, given a position of power, he will not be content until he maximizes the full potential of his position; which, with his ambitious nature, means he will never be satisfied. This guy wants you to change with him, in fact, he can’t stand permanence in life. He is also a notorious gossip who will want to know everything that’s happening. This is not to say that you cannot trust this guy. You can. However, the weird thing is, the only way that you can get him to keep a secret is when you express that you trust him 100%.

In Love: This guy will have many girl friends, not necessarily love relationships but more of friendships. If you’re the jealous type of girl, don’t enter a relationship with this guy because he really loves to make friends. Again, the paradox of trusting plays a big role. He might say to you when you’re being paranoid: “Tutal wala ka din naming tiwala sa akin, e di gawin ko na lang ung lagi mong ina-accuse sa akin. No difference naman e, wala ka din naming tiwala.” But if you don’t nag him as to where he went or what he did, he will voluntarily talk to you about the people (including girls) he met and be very open about his feelings about other people. This is because he is secure that you will not over-react and get unreasonably jealous.

Polgara’s Quick Tip: Pag may tiwala ka sa kanya, mahihiya siyang gumawa ng kalokohan. Just make sure na hindi pakitang-tao ung tiwala mo, kasi mase-sense nya na nagkukunwari ka lang. Like a guy friend of mine said to us when we were asking him to drink, “guys, I would really love to, but my GF trusts me that I will not drink tonight, so I won’t.” No amount of peer pressure will make him break his promise to his GF who trusts him completely.

Cancer Guy (June 22 - July 22) Sweet Midas

This guy loves to be pampered with romantic words, gifts and gestures, the same way as he loves to shower his friends with these. He’s sweet and cuddly… and incredibly tickly. He seems like a pushover who will always be ready with a smile and infectious laugh. However, beware of Dr.Jekyll behind his Mr. Hyde. This guy normally has a side of his personality that is completely different from that side that you know. My personal experience with a Cancer guy friend showed me that something must trigger this behavior switch. In my guy pal’s case, it’s alcohol. He’s calm and funny when he’s normal, and he gets wild and outrageous when he’s consumed alcohol. Another situation to be wary about is business. When this Cancer guy handles the money side of your company, you can be sure that your money will grow. Every trade or a deal is a challenge to his powers of persuasion, and he is always one step ahead in market trends. He will crush the competition (business-wise) with a charming smile and a pat in the back, like saying “nice try, buddy”. Like Midas, the proverbial icon whose touch brings gold, this guy’s mind is like a working cash register that’s on 24/7.

In Love: He will almost always express his love in gifts that are sentimental as well as unique. He prides himself as a good cook and will only cook for someone he likes or loves. If he feels like you’re taking advantage of his generosity, he will pretend to be broke. He will pay a good amount of money for scenery and a romantic location, but won’t waste his cents on somewhere hip and modern but not in the least romantic.

Polgara’s Quick Tip: Ito ang sign na madalas magtampo at tumahimik na parang hurt na hurt pag ina-away. Mas madalas tumalab ang mga lambing at sweet-nothings sa guy na ito kesa sa ibang signs. Expect PDAs, and impulsive hugs and kisses during dates. He is a mama’s boy, kaya wag na wag pipintasan ang kanyang mommy.

Leo Guy (July 23 -August 21) His Majesty, Johnny Bravo.

There are 2 kinds of Leo guys, I call them The Big Lion and The Shy Pussycat. The big lions are BIG, literally, with big ideas, big statements and bigger egos. The shy pussycats are timid but will bristle like a cheetah and unsheath their claws when insulted personally (in their standards). Both types talk about themselves all the time, the first with a big voice, and the latter with a soft voice. These people desperately need an audience to listen to them. One indication of the August-born is the way they talk: in steady, measured tones and dramatic statements that always make an impact… as if he’s hearing applause in his mind everytime he finishes with one statement. He will always have people who love him to a fanatic degree, and people who hate him… also to a fanatic degree. Like Johnny Bravo, he will seem invincible and unstoppable. Only a Leo will show true courage in desperate times. When everyone is too scared to move, he will slap fear in the face and say, “shut up and go away!”. In group dynamics, he would rather lead, but will be content to stay in the sidelines (as the right hand man), as long as he gets credit for everything he did behind the scenes.

In Love: This guy will want to know what you did at 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm…..etc. He will want to know what you ate, who you ate with, and what you talked about during lunch. When you suddenly stare out at nothing outside the window, he will ask you, “Anong ini-isip mo?”. He owns you, and all your feelings and your thoughts belong only to him. Unlike the Aries guy who will want you to attend to him only when he needs you, the Leo guy will want you to attend to him and his needs, think only of him and even dream of him, even when he’s not around.

Polgara’s Quick Tip: Don’t waste money buying him sentimental but inexpensive gifts. He prefers branded things, even those he doesn’t need. I once gave a Leo friend of mine a branded, limited-edition lighter (Zippo) for his birthday and his eyes lit up with a smile so bright. His first words of delight were “Taena, ang mahal nito! Thanks ha!”. He proceeded to proudly show all his other friends his new branded lighter. See, they feel very important if you are willing to spend so much money and time on them. Also, nakakatuwa ang Leo kasi pwede mo silang lokohin, kantyawan, pagtawanan, kutyahin…. stuffs that other guys will be really pikon about. Huwag na wag mo lang silang de-dedmahin… as in, parang mortal sin para sa kanila na ma-dedma sila.

Virgo Guy (August 22 - September 23) Chivalrous Prude

This guy is a gentleman, chivalrous and has conservative beliefs to match. He is also very vain and thinks that cosmetics surgery in men is not unheard of. He’s usually handsome with a great sense of humor. He stays away from loud people as a rule but provides the “decent balance” in a group where boisterous people are predominant. He is often mistaken as gay for his vanity, but the numerous of girls who are after him think otherwise. He believes that guys should woo a girl and not the other way around. For all his conservative beliefs, though, he rarely goes out for a long time with a girl who seems dumb and all-beauty. He often falls in love with a girl who has brains more than beauty. This trait may also be related with the fact that he will not go out with someone “prettier” than him. Just his equal in brains and beauty is enough. He is practical and will only spend enough to satisfy. He is secretly very insecure and trends in fashion, technology and even science amaze him. Prudence is the key word with him and he will not be able to sleep when he thinks he did something improper during the day.

In Love: He will be the perfect guy to bring to the salon with you in a date. He will not feel uncomfortable and may even astound you with how much he knows about wrinkle creams and facial washes. He likes to pamper a girl but will deliberately ignore a girl when she becomes too demanding of his time and finances.

Polgara’s Quick Tip: Always look and smell your best when in a date with him. Trim your fingernails and keep the nail polish to a minimum or at least in a tasteful color na hindi mukhang slut-ish. If you feel like burping, farting or picking your nose, do it when he’s not looking or magpigil na lang maski ikamatay mo na ung kati. He will never forget the image in his mind of you picking your nose or the sound of your burp. He may laugh with you for a while but deep inside, he’s cringing “eeww!”.

Libra Guy (September 24 - October 23) Princely Procrastinator

This is the most charming of all the male signs. He will get you comfortable fast with his soft-sounding voice and melodious laughter. He will usually have dimples, whether on the face or elsewhere. He will be very friendly, but too much familiarity turns him off. He has numerous acquaintances and few close friends, but if he throws a party, everyone is invited, even the most distant friends of friends of friends. He prefers to think about a decision long and hard before he has to make it. He will consider scenarios upon scenarios in his mind, up to a point that he will refuse to make a concrete stand because he can’t go one way and discard the other points to consider. Like the female counterpart, he is capable of conversation that brings new ideas to the table. His powers of concentration are immeasurable, but be wary that the harder he worked, the longer he needs to sleep afterwards. Sleep and rest is sacred to this sign and he often pretends to be asleep or resting just so you wouldn’t disturb him. For all his appreciation of constant contact with friends and family, this guy will turn off his cellphone or take the landline off the hook while he rests. This is what I call his “alone mood”, the time when he is acutely aware of his surroundings and will rather lie quietly or submerge himself in a book for a long time rather than deal with the real world. Besides these occasional bouts of anti-social behavior, he is the most entertaining talker who will argue his point endlessly but still keep you spellbound by his voice and his smile.

In Love: Don’t expect this guy to understand your contradicting behaviour. One example is when he asks if you’re ok, and you reply “ok lang ako”. He will take it na ok ka lang talaga but will be slightly confused as to why you’re still frowning or still don’t want to eat. He will not spend his mental energy figuring out the reasons behind the reasons why you’re in a bad mood. He will ask you for an explanation only once, and then he will move on.

Polgara’s Quick Tip: My experience with Librans taught me not to expect him to run after me when it was I who declared that the relationship is over. He will be able to forget a girl insultingly fast. If you bring him in a place where he has to make endless choices before he places his order (i.e. Starbucks), restrain him when he feels like throttling the barista. Better yet, decide what you’re getting then ikaw na ang magsabi sa kanya kung ano ang ok na pwede nyang i-try. Spare him the agony of making choice after choice after choice. Also, if the courtship has gone on long enough, the girl should be the one to make the final stand for the relationship already, or else it will never happen.

Scorpio Guy (October 24 - November 22) The Sexy Stalker

The moment he declares that his birthday is in late October or November, an inexplicable chill envelops your heart as if you’re afraid for some reason. One physical trait unique to a Scorpio Guy is his eyes, like two dark pools of emotion that you cannot interpret, like he actually reads you. The only indication that you hurt him with something you said is a split second blinking of the eyes or changing of the facial expression. When you miss this split-second show of raw emotion, you will never see it again. His face is like granite and will even laugh with you as if he wasn’t affected … but be wary of the affable façade because inside his mind, he is brewing his revenge. There are 3 kinds of Scorpio guys according to Goodman: The Sinister Snake, the Grey Lizard and the Killer Eagle. The difference between the 3 has something to do with the way they deal with the molten magma of raw passion inside them when they get offended. When someone deliberately tried to hurt him in any way, the Snake responds by silently and patiently working behind the scenes to set up the offender’s downfall, and when the time is ripe, he will secretly laugh and watch as his enemy slowly writhes in pain with the poison he planted. The Eagle will respond in the most straightforward means, striking suddenly, swooping down on the offender’s neck and inflicting pain instantly. The Grey Lizard is the most woeful of all Scorpios because he will point the direction of his hurt inwards to himself, resulting in self pity, and ultimately, self destruction. But there’s hope for the Grey one, as long as he keeps his perspective despite his personal pain, for he has the potential to transform himself from the ashes like a Phoenix and rebuild his pride eventually.

In Love: It’s funny how most good girls are attracted to the brooding bad boy. Is it the mystery that he seems to keep or the enigma that makes these girls curious? Nonetheless, this guy will not target a girl needlessly, for fear of rejection. But if a girl suddenly shows even the slightest signs of attraction, he will respond with a persistence that is unshakeable and unceasing until he gets her. This guy will love you forever once he had a relationship with you. Even if it ended disastrously, he will still remember you fondly after 20 years. He’s the most boyish of all the signs, which contradicts his volatile nature. Like the girl counterpart, he will love you and stay loyal to you, no matter how many times he gets tempted to leave you. This one’s a keeper.

Polgara’s Quick Tip: Don’t flirt with this guy if you plan to just to tease him, you may get more than you bargained for. He may glance at you directly one time and say “ang taba mo” and then another time he may say “baduy mo pumorma”…. but despite his apparent nastiness he will look at you and treat you like the most beautiful girl in the world in bed every night, all night long. Kailangan malakas loob mo kung Scorpio ang BF mo, at dapat hindi ka madaling masindak.

Sagittarius guy (November 23 - December 22) The Daredevil

This guy loves to laugh and considers himself very witty and funny. The amusing part is, he’s usually off the punchline and his jokes are often double-edged. This is well accepted by his friends because he dishes them out with a pizzaz that invites laughter, even those directed at him. At his best, he is hilarious. At his worst, he is fault-finding. He walks like he’s always going someplace very important. The one thing closest to his heart, other than you might be a pet, as this guy loves animals and will go to immeasurable lengths to save a sick dog or stray cat. His secret obsession might be speed, as he loves things fast-paced and dislikes slow people. The more volatile Sagittarians will almost always be on a car or bike. He is considered the life of the party, and no matter how tasteless his jokes are or how tactless he seems, people will still be laughing in appreciation. I have yet to meet a Sag who can take a personal critique graciously, even if they’re experts at pointing out the faults of others. For them, they’re cool, and no matter how much you find fault in them, they will never believe you. He likes to live life in the edge and he gets bored with cautious environments. You have to wonder if your Sagittarian boyfriend is really a stuntman who’s just pretending to be a grounded guy. They pack in the energy of a nuclear power plant, don’t get tired easily and they will take risks that most sane people will not even dream of taking

In Love: Even if the girl doesn’t seem to like him at first, he will risk rejection just to try and get you. Even of the odds are against him (like when a girl is already in another relationship), he won’t back down, the same as he doesn’t back down on a dare. Your relationship will be a whirlwind of emotions and fast-paced activities that may involve a myriad of sports and hobbies. He isn’t shy in showing his love for you and will declare it at every chance.

Polgara’s Quick Tip: When pointing out his mistakes, make it sound like a suggestion so that he doesn’t feel the need to be defensive. When you suggest things to him, he has the option to take it or not.

Capricorn Guy (December 23 - January 20) The Ultra-Dependable Stone Icon

He is calm and collected, won’t get rattled easily and will usually be strict in implementing his rules. With this guy as your BF, rules and regulations must be abided by and followed to the letter. Although he seems stony and shows no emotion, even during extreme fights, this does not mean he doesn’t feel any. See, the fact that he is unable to express himself emotionally is more of a dilemma to him than to you. He makes up for his emotional unavailability by being the most dependable boyfriend in the world. He picks you up daily, won’t scrimp on feeding you and will always remind you to take care of yourself when he’s not around, which is rare. He hates vulgarity and would try to reform you at once if your past behavior was not up to his standards. For him there’s a proper time for everything… for making love, making jokes, going out and staying at home. However, the good thing about him is he won’t be strict forever. These guys seem to grow younger and smile more often as the years go by. He becomes more open to fun as he mellows down and takes things less seriously. He’s the perfect guy to introduce to your parents as he will talk about his plans for the future as if he really has been planning it for a long time now. It is rare to see this guy in the bottom of the corporate ladder for a long time. He is tenacious and ambitious, will take everything from insults to menial odd-jobs to prove his worth to the company. He is capable of reaching the top of any industry he chooses just because his solid and dependable approach to work will get the attention of the big bosses.

In Love: At first, this guy seems generous and will shower you with gifts and expensive dates. As he gets more and more serious with you, he will start to show signs of being a tight-wad (kuripot). This is not because he’s losing love for you, it just means that he has started to look forward into your future together, and has already been planning finances and how to make your life comfortable when you raise a family. He may not hold your face romantically under the moon all the time and write love poems like a true poet, but he will be able to provide for you and your future children better than any of those other foolhardy, emotional and reckless guys you went out with.

Polgara’s Quick Tip: Maski hindi sya ganun ka-lambing, kelangan lambingin mo sya parati. He is always worried that you may not be able to understand him and love him as he is. He always needs to be inspired so that he can work harder for your future. He puts family first all the time and won’t run from responsibility.

Aquarius Guy (January 21 - February 19) Looney Fashion Victim

Curiosity might have killed the cat, but it certainly made him fall for you. It doesn’t matter if you’re less than perfect in appearance, he will venture out to dissect you and your personality under a microscope. When he’s through analyzing you and his curiosity is satisfied, he will still love you, but in a manner that is more friendly than romantic. This guy may dress weirdly. This is brought on partly by his refusal to conform to the current fashion trends, and partly because he thinks it’s the way he should dress. He took care in picking his clothes and follows his own original style. This guy is eccentric, sometimes to outrageous degrees. He may space out during a conversation, just because something in that conversation triggered a mental adventure that he’d rather not share with anyone, lest they be shocked or think he’s crazy. Perhaps he is a little bit on the looney side, but for him, that’s normal and perhaps thinks that it’s the other way around; that the whole world is looney and he’s the only sane person living in it. He is also a genius, and his genius borders on the insane. He is a humanitarian and won’t let other people suffer when he can do something about it. His ideas are usually never-heard of and he’s quite proud of his ability to innovate schemes that seems too crazy to work, but they do. Any form of restriction and emotional suffocation will have him running from you fast.

In Love: He will let you have your way most of the time, just to avoid confrontations and arguments. See, when you don’t argue, he is free to think of other things. His imagination brings him to places that no one else has ever been in, and this originality will show in his sexual performance as well as date choices. He won’t force you to believe everything he says, but he will not let you bind him into your idea of a perfect boyfriend.

Polgara’s Quick Tip: When talking to him and he suddenly talks about something that’s completely out of topic, the best reply would be an amazed “Ooowws?”, rather than a sarcastic “d-uh?”. Don’t make the mistake of calling him weird when he goes to a date wearing mismatched clothing or he will make sure that the date becomes hell for you. Better yet, compliment his unique appearance. If you really can’t stand it, be resourceful in making him put on a jacket or changing his shirt to something that you just bought from a store.

Pisces Guy (February 20- March 20) Inspired Dreamer

When you meet him for the first time, he instantly seems adorable to you. Like a puppy waiting for adoption, he looks at you as if he’s imploring you to bring him home. He won’t be a brat but will be a needy child wanting reassurance of love all the time. When he tells stories, the characters and plots become animated, as if you’re watching a full-length movie or play right there in front of you. There’s no indication in his twikling eyes whether his stories are just imagined or if some parts were emphasized to artistically big proportions for entertainment. This guy will voluntarily serve you in any way he can, and he will be thoughtful when there are occasions that need to be celebrated. After years of relationship, you’d be surprised how much detail he will still remember of your first date and what you wore then. This is a very sensitive guy and will float away from you with a slight smile and no explanation at all when you said something to hurt his fragile ego. When inspired with an optimistic partner, there are no limits as to how far he will excel in his career or in his future. But at the same time, when people around him continuously feed their negative energies to him, the depth of his depression is limitless. His mercy knows no boundaries and will almost always forgive the gravest mistake. Though Pisces is not really a possessive sign, my experience with this guy tells otherwise. If the relationship is on the shallow waters, he will not mind sharing you with others, and will even jokingly ask you with a smile if you have a crush on his best friend. But if he becomes very attached to you and the relationship heads deeper, the gentle arowana turns into the Greath White Sharkey who will ruthlessly cut the competition and you also, if you show signs of preferring other guy over him.

In Love: This guy is sensitive to your moods and will not be embarrassed to cry his heart out I front of you. If during your relationship you told him about your love for Haagen-Das ice cream, he will go to the Haagen-Das shop alone and eat ice cream when he misses you or when he’s still hung up on you. He secretly has a song for you in his mind which makes him emotional everytime he hears it over the radio. His choices of gifts are sentimental and whimsical rather than practical.

Polgara’s Quick Tip: When you’ve said yes to this guy, it means you’ve decided to adopt him. He will slave over your needs for as long as he can, even when he’s bone tired. It is your responsibility to make sure na hindi naman niya napapabayaan ang sarili nya dahil sa yo. Keep his sentimental letters in a nice box and show it to him during your anniversary. He likes to reminisce about past dates with you so always make sure that you keep a remembrance or a token whenever you’re dating in a nice location, and also show these to him during your monthsary/anniversary.
